I swam in the Mediterranean Sea today!
This morning I slept in the latest I have on this trip so far, 8:30. I was heading out to get my morning cappuccino, when I caught word that some people were going to the beach. I made a last minute decision to skip the cappuccino and join. We took the train about a hour towards the coast, to Ostia.
Its interesting; the beach is divided into areas of "private beaches" these are areas where you pay about 4 euros a person for spot, umbrella, chairs and cabana. The group I was with didn't want to pay the fee though, so we walked until we found the public beach. The water was beautiful, but slightly tainted by the littered sand, crowded people space and vendors. We set up camp and stayed for the afternoon.
The vendors on the beach blew my mind. They are Indian men draped in necklaces or bags, or towels or fake tattoos or etc. whatever they are selling. They walk around the beach all day trying to sell their junk. It is kind of awkward because they pass by a million times and aren't afraid to interrupt you mid sentence with your friends or anything; strange.
The water was beautiful: Teal blue, murky with salt, and cool.
I am red as a lobster! Let's just say that my spf 30 doesn't cut it this close to the equator :/
I bought some aloe on the way home; I want to swim in it. Hopefully it will heal fast and become a great tan...hehe...errr
Now I just got back from dinner and I'm headed upstairs to finish my homework for tomorrow. Our morning excursion is to catacombs and churches; should be sweet (and shady. PTL).
Hope you are all well!
Love you!
